Master of Science in Economics – Duration and Modality of the Program

Duration and Modality of the Program

MSE is a one-year (3-4 semester) program located in Dilijan.

Preparatory semester

Preparatory semester starts mid-June and is in Yerevan. Some students might be exempt from it based on their background and performance during the interview stage. Students might be required* to take any combination of the three courses - Graduate Preparatory Microeconomics, Quantitative Methods for Economists, and Statistical Methods for Economists. Students will need to pass those courses in order to continue with the studies.

* Admitted students have the right to enroll in the courses that were not required. In that case they will need to pass them in order to continue with the studies.

Core Semester

Core Semester starts in late-August and students relocate to Dilijan. The Semester includes 4 required (15-week) classes: Microeconomic Theory, Macroeconomic Theory, Econometrics, and Economic Analysis and Communication.

Specializing Mini-terms

Specializing Mini-terms (5 weeks each) commence in mid-January still in Dilijan. A large variety of elective courses will be on offer that students can choose from. The courses broadly fit into Finance, Applied economics and data analytics, or Monetary and Economic Policy specializations. Students are required to complete 14 elective courses in addition to required Sustainable Development and Pre-thesis courses.

The Capstone Semester

The Capstone Semester, beginning in mid-June, focuses on producing a research thesis under guided supervision and concludes with a Thesis Viva in early August*. Students are not required to stay in Dilijan any more, however they are strongly encouraged to stay in Armenia. Note that part of the semester may overlap with a Specializing mini-term. In the case a course in that mini-term is taken, a stay in Dilian will be required.

* Students usually are offered an option to work on the thesis in the Fall semester should they choose to do so.
