The Manoogian Simone College of Business and Economics (CBE) offers a Master of Science in Strategic Management (MSSM) to prepare graduates for mid-level careers or further studies in business, management and related fields.

With a strong foundation in quantitative analysis, the program is designed to produce evidence-based decision-makers who apply critical thinking, creative approaches to problem solving, with an ethical mindset. Students deepen their knowledge in the main functional areas of business–finance, accounting, operations management and marketing–and will apply core management theories and concepts to challenging real-world situations.

The curriculum aims to:

  • Equip students with conceptual and theoretical knowledge and applied skills in finance, accounting, operations and marketing to engage in evidence-based management decision-making
  • Prepare students for careers or further studies in business and management

AUA aims to prepare not only well-grounded specialists but also well-rounded individuals, able to think critically and creatively, to learn independently, to understand different thought processes, to work collaboratively, and to communicate effectively with people from different cultures and disciplines.

Career options for graduates of this program include companies involved in production and export of goods and services, large and medium importing distribution companies in various industries (e.g. food, FMCG), financial institutions (banking, insurance), business consulting, corporate strategic planning, real estate, etc.

Admission requirements

Applicants are evaluated based on a combination of metrics, which have been established to gauge applicants’ potential to succeed in this program of study.  The MSSM offers a balanced blend of advanced quantitative and qualitative subjects; hence, the admissions criteria reflect these varied dimensions of the applicants’ profile.  The MSSM program’s admission committee performs a holistic assessment of each candidate’s profile, which does not reduce the admission decision to a test score or grade point average. The following criteria and requirements are used in evaluating applicants:

Graduate School Admissions Exams: The MSSM program carefully reviews applicants’ academic records and performance in the GRE/ GMAT and iBT/IELTS.

  • The program requires a minimum of 60th percentile on the GRE or GMAT (only quantitative part); a higher score does not guarantee admission.
  • The program follows the university-wide guideline of minimum scores of 79 TOEFL iBT and 6.5 IELTS

To be considered for admission, applicants must submit a completed AUA Application for Admission to Graduate Study and all required program supplements as outlined in the application instructions.

Academic Background:  Applicants to the MSSM program should hold an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution of higher education with evidence of strong academic performance.  While there are no specific pre-requisite courses for the program, students who do not have a quantitative background are encouraged to take courses such as statistics, calculus, accounting or finance.

Personal Attributes: The MSSM program seeks mature applicants who have a clear vision of their career and their personal and professional development plans.

Work Experience: No prior work experience is required.

AUA Extension program: You may get help preparing for TOEFL iBT and GRE tests.  AUA extension program offers preparatory courses for both TOEFL iBT and GRE tests. These courses aim at familiarizing you with the test format and test-taking strategies and training you to improve your test scores. For addition details visits http://extension.aua.am/

Admissions Calendar: Throughout the year, the Office of Admissions will offer informational lectures, Open Houses, and application help dates. Please refer to www.aua.am/AdmissionsCalendar for more information on these events. Applicants are highly encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible and well before the published deadline dates. Applicants who submit complete applications earlier will typically be notified of their admissions status earlier. Male applicants who request military deferment in their application form must submit a complete application by the regular admissions deadline date.

Selection: AUA practices holistic admissions. Each application is initially screened for technical eligibility. The admissions committee then conducts a thorough review of each eligible application. Part of this process may include an interview. As admissions to AUA is competitive, the committee considers both academic and personal information including academic history, graduate admissions test scores, the statement of purpose, recommendation letters, and the interview, if applicable. Decisions made by the admissions committee are final and cannot be appealed.

Tuition: Current tuition information is available at http://admissions.aua.am/tuition/. The tuition covers up to 36 credits.

Financial Aid: AUA’s financial aid programs include tuition assistance and scholarships. Applicants applying for tuition assistance should submit their tuition assistance application form shortly after submitting their application for admissions. International applicants can apply for scholarships that may cover up to 50% of tuition. More information, including financial aid deadline dates, is available at http://finaid.aua.am/
